Description
Tim Dabbs is a musical storyteller who will take you on a journey across our great country, through our history and through your own emotions. You'll feel as if you know some of the folks who are the characters in his songs; the grandmother who introduced him to an old player piano in Worn Ivory Keys, or perhaps the displaced steelworkers in Cambria Bells . Chesapeake Bay waterman, the barnstorming pilots of the early airmail service and railroadmen-the people, places and history of America. Tim has a well-developed fingerstyle guitar technique, a product of more than 25 years of teaching and performing acoustic music. His melodic playing style compliments his tenor voice, and is well suited to the topical songs as well as the tender ballads that make up his repertoire. Tim cites Gordon Lightfoot, Harry Chapin, John Denver and James Taylor as influences on his performance and songwriting style. He writes in the topical style much of the time, and has mastered the story song-- evident in his works such as "The Day the Rumors Came True," a haunting tale of the infamous Johnstown Flood of 1889 and Cambria Bells, a song of the rise and fall of an American steel town. Safely Home is the Tim's newest CD release. This 15 song collection is a follow up to Tim's first two commercial releases, Juniper Light, and Live! I write about nouns," Tim joked during an interview on National Public Radio. "I take my inspiration from people that I've met, and the places that I've been, as well as the diverse history of our country. I'm humbled by the fact that people come out to listen to the stories and songs that I have to share. Folk music has brought many people of many cultures together over the years; I'm proud to be a part of that ongoing tradition."
