I could have done without the added choral parts in some of the arrangements, particularly in "A Christmas Festival", but otherwise all was OK. Robin Williams was wonderful in the Visit from St. Nicholas. We've been fans of Cincinnati Pops Christmas for some time. Loved Eric Kunsel. This new compilation is good and takes a bit of a change of direction - not as much "pops" - a wider variety of styles. My wife and I were able to see the Pops at Music Hall in Cincinnati for their 2014 holiday concert. John Morris Russell is an amazing conductor, and this CD was playing frequently in our house throughout the holiday season. I like that they aren't afraid to try alternate arrangements.Five stars, and looking forward to more!Relaxing mixture of Christmas songsExcellent recording. Really enjoy the May Festival Chorus! I love the "Angel's Dance" with the Pops and the fun arrangement of "Go tell it on the Mountain" John Morris Russell is quite an asset to Cincinnati. Welcome! The Cincinnati Pops is outstanding. Love this CD! There is a lot of variety and I played it constantly throughout the Holidays.John Morris Russell's first recording as conductor of the Cincinnati Pops is a seasonal collection of many of the usual suspects, with the orchestra joined by two choruses and the New York Voices. Tenor Rodrick Dixon delivers a thrilling "O Holy Night" that should have been placed near the end of the program to serve as its climax, instead of being its second track. Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell doesn't sing, but reads the famous "Yes, Virginia" editorial to the accompaniment of Elgar's "Nimrod." Yes, Virginia, it's heavy-handed and sentimental, and few will reach the end with a dry eye. The orchestra's instrumental soloists are also featured, in a new arrangement of Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" (piano) and in a clever blending of Vivaldi's "Winter" and "O Hanukkah" (violin). Good playing, good sound, good fun. Total timing of the disc is less than an hour, but it never wears out its welcome, which is more than can be said for some holiday guests.Every year, I try to add a new musical album to my repertoire of Christmas music to add to the Yuletide magic, and this year, my decision couldn't have been made any easier. After being in attendance at the first "Home for the Holidays" concert last year, I honestly wished I could have bought a ticket for the following evening's performance, but rightfully so, it was sold out. Listening to this CD brings back the warm aura I had while listening live to the Pops, Mayfest, and other artists, experiencing John Morris Russell doing what he does so well, and watching the lively Cincinnati-native Winton Woods Ensemble (now a Gold Medalist choir at this year's World Choir Games). It was truly a fine night, and this CD has captured it all. Although it lacks Sandi Patty's classic, spirited vocals, this album still ultimately feels complete, and I look forward to supporting the Pops and Cincinnati's other phenomenal groups in the future. Happy Holidays.fantastic C/D love every track on it did a fantastic job...l would recomend this C/D to anyone eveb had the younger generation listen to it in my house ..not their cup of tea but the still listen to it .so they know what real music is...lolシンシナティ・ポップスはエリック・カンゼルなきあと、ジョン・モリス・ラッセルに代わり、一体どんなに変わったのかと楽しみにしていましたが、新しい音になった...
