Fans of Inspector Morse will get a kick out of seeing John Thaw, long synonymous with that cerebral sleuth, playing a discombobulated single dad whose estranged teenage son, Matthew, unexpectedly disrupts his father's staid existence. For these two chaps, the generation gap seems more like a chasm: one fancies rock 'n' roll and his dad's off-limits whisky, while the other wonders what hit him and gamely tries to get with the new program. Clever dialogue, crisp direction, and first-rate acting give this popular Britcom singular charm.
