This authentic east coast instrumental CD of Alex Francis Mackay on fiddle took me to a place I haven't been for in far too long - "down home" to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, land of some of the richest fiddle music in Canada with its jigs, reels and ballads. As the jacket says, this music evokes a time long past that is still compelling today. On a personal note, my ancestors fished the sea and farmed the land of Cape Breton back to the 1740s.
